Fishing on Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond is the largest fresh water Loch in Scotland and it provides perfect surroundings and conditions for the keen angler.

If you would enjoy visiting a fishery, why not try Carbeth? Situated in the beautiful countryside just outside Loch Lomond, one mile from Queen's View and within easy reach of Glasgow, this tranquil area allows you to take time out, whilst you enjoy a sport that is loved by many.

Carbeth was opened in 1997 with the development of their first pond. It is approximately 2 acres in size and is stocked on a daily basis with rainbow trout from 2 - 20 lbs. It is predominately a family pond allowing parents to keep an eye on their children whilst enjoying a relaxing day's fishing. Carbeth also provide disabled access to the pond.

If you would prefer to sit on a boat to enjoy fishing as opposed to dry land, then we suggest Macfarlane and Son. There are twenty traditional clinker style boats for hire, fishing or family days out. Located on the eastern shore of Loch Lomond at Balmaha. Rates are as follows:

Without outboard £10 per hour or £30 per day
With outboard £20 per hour or £50 per day
Longer term hires by arrangement

Loch Lomond Shores

Whilst visiting Scotland’s first National Park, you are bound to come across Loch Lomond shores. It is one of Scotland’s most idyllic visitor’s destinations, combining the tranquil environment with an excellent mixture of leisure and shopping experiences overlooking Loch Lomond.

Loch Lomond shores is a unique shopping environment, with a variety of shops, restaurants and bars including Jenners, the longest established, independent department store in the world. Loch Lomond Shores is a must for anyone visiting the area.

Luxury Speedboat Tours and Boat Hire

Undeniably the most memorable and exciting way to experience Loch Lomond is by going on a luxury speedboat tour. It’s up to you whether you would prefer to cruise slowly throughout the many islands or travel much faster in open waters. This is a once in a life time experience for all the family, with great photo ops of the magnificent views and constantly changing scenery!“

Loch Lomond Leisure Scotland” offer luxury speedboat tours on the Loch. Short trips lasting 20 minutes are only £5.00 and depart from Luss Public Pier regularly. Private charters can also be arranged from 30 minutes right up to a full day of 8 hours.

Canoe, Kayak and Pedal Boat Hire

If its stunning views you’re after, then why not try your hand at one of the great activities offered by “Can you Experience Co”. You can have peace of mind while enjoying your experience by knowing their staff monitor the designated area, patrolling in a safety boat.

The canoes, kayaks and pedal boats can all be hired for ½ an hour or 1 hour, at a cost of £10 for ½ an hour’s activity, or just £15 for a full hour. Each canoe can seat up to two adults and two small children. A kayak is suitable for 2 adults, or 1 adult and 1 child, and the pedal boats are can seat up to 3 adults and 2 small children. They do have a limited number of ‘super pedal boats’, which can seat up to 3 adults and 2 large children. So regardless of the numbers in your group you will always be able to find an activity that suits.

NB - Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Also remember, since the hire is only available for short duration periods, all hires will be made on a first come, first served basis, and therefore is not pre-bookable. Can you Experience is open everyday between Easter and October for pedal boat and mountain bike hire (weather permitting!) Canoe and kayak hire is also available every weekend and all school/bank holidays.

Loch Lomond Shooting School

If you’re bored of all the typical tourist activities then there’s always Loch Lomond Shooting School, which is known as one of the best ranges for clay pigeon shooting in Scotland. If you've never tried it before, why not give it a go in a safe and friendly environment? No previous experience is required as instruction is given by a former Scottish international clay pigeon shot. It's fun and challenging and suitable for men and women of all ages (minimum 12 years).

Times: You can arrange to shoot anytime from 11 am to 4 pm. (N.B. there is no shooting on Sundays).
Price: £45 per person for 50 clays. This includes the use of gun, ear defenders and expert tuition.
Facilities: The School has modern electronic traps which give a variety of targets to simulate everything from high pheasants to bolting rabbits, in a scenic woodland setting overlooking Loch Lomond.
